- Parents should get involved with their child in making friendships. If there aren't any children near by who you can invite home then use puppets, toys or dolls to teach social skills like joining in, sharing, and how to deal with conflict so that your child has some idea of what to do. Practice these as much as possible. If you do have the opportunity to organise play dates it is good to invite the other child's parents along so that you can show your child and the other child exactly how you make new friends and relate to other people. This will also help ensure that your child will get comfortable going to the other child's home because they will know the parents as well as the child.
