My daughter is just 5yrs old and has always been somewhat of a 'funnyosity'. She is charming, engaging and insightful but has always had a few odd little ways.
I was often told that she was very 'trusting' when people carried her - they didn't understand that she simply didn't have the instinct to hold on or balance her own body.
I was quietly criticised for being over bearing - they didn't understand that my daughter wasn't equipped the same as other toddlers when it came to recognising dangers or anticipating other peoples behaviour and actions.
I have often wondered if I somehow did something to cause my daughter to be 'different' but I know that, after many years of fertility treatment, I was the most careful pregnant mum you could imagine and proudest new mum you ever met.
To any new parent reading this, don't let your instincts be bullied into becoming feelings of doubt or guilt. Be an active and educated parent and embrace everything that is your child.
