Are there any free dyslexia screening tests online?
I think that I could be dyslexic.
I'd like to know if there are any FREE ONLINE dyslexia screening tests that will give me a good idea if im dyslexic or not.
Afraid Not, or at least none that should be relied upon to give a reliable answer. My suggestion is for you to look-up an educational psychologist in your area that you can visit in confidence.
Sorry I'm not more help.
Quite often its not the test that is the key but the person testing and what to do about it - yes something online may give you an indication of dyslexia but not what that may mean to you or what is the root cause of your problem - also if you are looking for things like exam concessions and/or help at work you will need either a EP or specialist teacher report to show that you have these difficulties. Also I have found that having a test like this can often be quite an emotional experience and having a properly qualified professional to go through the process is as important, if not more, that the test itself. I spend more time going through the results of the tests than testing and that is reflected in my fee which normally works out at about £25-40 per hour - alot cheaper than a plumber!
Don't trust online tests for dyslexia and it's key to find an expert who not only does the test properly but (as the prevous poster said)can ensure you interpret the results correctly and act on them in the right way.
I can suggest a very simple task that can help pinpoint the nature of reading problems. The person must have some reading ability and you need to identify words they know. Then you can compare two tasks. In one pair two words (or a word and a picture) and ask whether the two mean the same, the opposite, or are unrelated. In the second pair words and ask whether they rhyme (use pairs like: bone/gone and buy/tie).
In published research I have shown that 85% of students labeled reading disabled can do the semantic match as well as ''normal readers'', but are deficient in the rhyme match.
The child knows what the word means even though he or she has a problem saying it. Perhaps these children have a chronic ''tip of the tongue'' problem.
I would like to become a specialist teacher so I can screen and provide a report to apply for exam concessions but I am having problems finding the right type of course. Can you advise?
Agree with the comments that say an online assessment is not the best way to go: do consult an expert if you can. In the meantime, read around the subject - knowledge is power!
There's a brief article here that gives an overview of the main different causes of reading problems/dyslexia:
I'm wary of free dyslexia tests. While you can identify reading difficulties through standardized testing (indeed many educational psychologists uses standard tests) to actually diagnose a condition such as dyslexia would need face-to-face consultation not a free dyslexia test.
Hello i am a 28 year old mother of three and i was told i have dylexia and i wanted to pass a drivers license test and i failed both times and i can seem to remember what the answers are.. Now i was in slow learning classes when i was in school and i never fishined because i couldn't understand most of what they were saying and the teachers would look at me crazy cause i kept asking over and over again about the same thing and i just need help! I can't take drive to the dr or take my kids to there dr and i just want to pass this test, is there away i can get some help? idon't have any money or i don't work and i can't keep a job long enough, my husband is very understanding and want me to find help as well.. thank you so much.
i really need to no if im dyslexia coz it is really bugging me can somebody tell me a website for an online test, please.
I am dyslexic. I went to Arizona State referred psychologist to become certified as dyslexic. He gave me a multi level IQ test. I was given an IQ of 137,genius! Dyslexic people often are, surprise. Except I was below normal learning new things. Clear symptom of dyslexia, but the Doc dismissed that and everything I discussed about my ways to compensate for my various dyslexic problems. He said dyslexia is someone who can't read, thats all! Narrow minded and ignorant. So called pros can be completely misleading. Spell check helps me more.
I have used a few online dysliexia tests and they have all told me that i am probably dyslexic, i took the tests because my teacher noticed that i kept reading the same line over and over again and i was finding it hard to concentrate. I think i might be dyslexic but i am 16 and if i was dyslexic surely it would've been recognised before now? I also got an A* on my English GCSE so im confused as to whether i am or not :/ any help?
Jasmin you could be dyslexic a lot of people with dyslexia are very smart but sometimes the syptoms of dyslexia don't allow us to show that
I am 14 years old and from an early I've a had problems with spelling, reading, comprehending questions, writing structure and understanding expression in written literature etc. I couldn't speak until I was 2 and a half, the speech therapist said in was just quite. Teachers at school said that I was bright, but said that I didn't work hard enough because I rarely finished tasks on time. That made me very upset and frustrated. My Mum and my teachers don't think I'm dyslexic because I do pretty well at high-school and get very good grades, rarely getting under 70% in tests. I can have very intellectual conversation with adults. However, I highly suspect myself of being an undiagnosed dyslexic, so Please give me some advice on what I should do next.
where can I find a dydlexia test on line,im not to good on the pc either.
To Nicola Taylor looking for qualifications in screening for Dyslexia.Look on Dyslexia Action website, all sorts of webinars for parents of Dyslexics as well as courses run to qualify to screen and teach
Be cautious about free dyslexia tests - they tend to be very simplistic. There is the Dyslexia Centre in the UK that does an online test. It gives you a personally written detailed report from an educationalist and also some materials to help you, if you are diagnosed with dyslexia. You have to pay but it is not too expensive
There's a test called lexercise. check out the link
