Hi he may be able to get a statement the school has to prove a complex need. Some schools are better than others. I did not know this with my eldest who has ADHD and dyspraxia. My youngest who has same plus autism wouldn't even go into school without a fight. I moved schools to a fantastic school and they were shocked that she had not got a statement. My middle child has dyspraxia but is only obn school action plus 8 hours a week because she is considered to be coping. He shouls be entitled to DLA but read anything you can find online before filling in the form and be detailed so you don't get refused. 2 of mine get it at middle for care and lower for mobility.
If you want any help leave a message here. If the school don't want to statement you can start the process yourself. the school doen't pay for the statement the LEA does.

Hi Michelle
As far as I know it can be quite difficult to get a statement for your child's difficulties at such a young age. Have they beeen diagnosed by an Psychologist? The school needs to have proof that your child isnt coping at school despite all the schools efforts. They need to try everything first. I'd suggest making sure the school has regular IEP's, regular EdPysch assessments (& other professionals) CAF's as many review meetings as possible. Once there is at keast a few terms of evidence it gives a better chance of getting a statement.Id also try include some of your child's work in the application as evidence. I've also found it is better if the Statement comes from the parent too. Hope this helps.
