There is a general inability to understand what Dyspraxia is and how it affects our children. We've moved our daughter three times now, she is extremely well behaved and polite, yet over and over we hear the excuse, 'It's your daughter's fault she's being bullied or treated badly' because she misunderstands, she is an otherwise bright and intelligent child, yet these teachers seem to have a general inability to 'teach' and seem to think that saying something over and over in exactly the same way will help! We think our daughter also has Dyscalculia, but the Senco at her school refuses to even acknowledge that there is a problem and in general attaches blame, rather than actually solving the problem, in desperation we're looking for another school, our daughter does have a Statement, but her teacher feels it's more important to 'hit' government targets than to actually help our daughter who should be his priority. We've looked at public schools that specialise and independent schools, but they're all so expensive, we're now looking at state run special schools, but we are out of our depth. We live in Devon, but we're even prepared to move should the need arise. We'd love to hear from other parents who've found a solution to this problem, or if someone has advise or guidance even? HELP! HI, Sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your daughter's schooling. My nephew is 8 years old and has oral and motor dyspraxia. My sister has also had terrible problems with his schools. He is on his second school but soon to change to his third as the school seems unable to teach him to read or write. My sister is also in Devon and has come up against a lot of prejudice and ignorance, but the one thing she did manage was to take my nephew out of a useless main stream school into a private school and got Devon County Council to agree to use his statement money to fund his private place. Now he is moving schools again she can take the statement funding to the next private school she chooses. There is an independent special school called Marks College in Highbridge, Somerset that specialises in helping children with dyspraxia and dyslexia which is day or boarding. The key is to get the Statement funding to pay for her place at private school and then you can choose where is best for her. My sister simply argued that the state system in her area had nothing that could accomodate his needs and won. I hope this helps. HAnnah
