Hi, My 7 year old daughter surely has dyspraxia as she experiences so many of the classic symptoms. She have been referred to an OT by the school and doctor but so far we have been waiting a year for an appointment. In the meantime my daughter has started to get upset by her struggles. She says she is useless and that her friends dont like her, I try to reassure her but its hard. Id love for her to be able to join a local group for support but I cant seem to find one in east or north yorkshire. Does anyone know of one?
Many thanks

My daughter had similar problems. The only thing she liked doing was going to the swimming pool, by herself. I then enroled her in swimming lessons disaster! could not physically cope and didn't like others in class. The swimming teacher then suggested a local disability swimming club. This was the beginning specialist teachers taught her to swim. She made her only friends with similar add kids and now competes in disablility competitions. I now help run the club which has now grown considerably and has swimmers entering national events.
What I am suggesting in this long roundabout way is if your daughter is struggling look for something to suit your daughter don't try to make her fit in with others.
I also sit on a forum forparents of special needs disabled children. At a similar thing in your area you may meet parents of similar children and get support that way
