Hi
I have been sat in my house really in a state of shock, Im still wearing my coat.
I went to supervision today as I am a cognitive behaviour psychotherapist and told my supervisor I dont know what it is but my memory is so terrible even though I write appointments down I seem to not make them, my diary is a constant mess, I cant remember anything at all for example I change my password for my email address and the very second I have done it I cant remember what it was. I am 37 years old now and have really always been like this.
My supervisor said what about checking out dyslexia so today I went to the library and found a book on that and dyspraxia and all of a sudden it all fits into place. My last boyfriend asked me once do I self harm which I found very funny as of course not but I am covered in bruises the thing is I never thought any thing of it because thats how its always been. I knock into things and trip, hit myself, spill things even though I am very aware that I dont want to do that. I cant organise my household bills infact I keep putting them on the fire as I dont know what else to do with them which is quite funny really how I have had a house so long... I dont know how I have managed! Even as a child I knocked into things and always had terrible sores on my knees from falling.
I think I read with stress it makes it worse which makes sense too as the pressure of parents divorce and my masters degree has driiven me batty.
Im scared to be honest, it just all makes sense now... Im not crazy or lazy and the thing I have been fighting all my life seems to be this. Why has it taken me this long to know this... I am sorry to write so much but if anyone takes the times to read this thank you... do you know if you have dyspraxia does it mean you have all the symptoms as I dont I dont think and what do I do... will it get worse and I will forget my own name eventually?

The symptoms vary but generally people with dyspraxia with have problems with their motor system i.e clumsiness
It's not a progessive illness.
If you have it you won't get any worse. I was diagnosised when i was about 7 and i am not 20, i am less clumsy then when i was then. This may be due to me being aware of it.
As for memory loss, people with dyspraxia may struggle to remember things in the short term but you can use organisation strategies to cope with this.
Try not to worry too much about it, i would go to your gp though, they might be able to refer you to some sort of learning disablities specialist.
