My daughter suffers with directional difficulties and so makes it very diffuicult for her to play/hang out with friends. She simply dosent recognise where she is and cant look at a street and remember enough of the detalis to form a idea of where she is. She has visual problems which impact on her seing her surroundings as they are, she has vision therapty for this. Dont know if that makes any sense. Has any body got any stratergies for coping with this. I simply dont know where to turn on this and havent found anything on the web to help and have had no help from proffessionals on this either.

Hi,
Sorry to hear you've had no help with this. I have dyspraxia as well and have problems with sense of direction. Sometimes I find it help to remember landmarks in my head - often it's helpful to encode them verbally as my visual memory is dreadful. For example, I'll say to myself in my head there's the bus station, then there's the coop and then there's the park so I'll remember the location of the park by first remembering 'bus station... coop... park.' How old is your daughter - it sounds as though she's quite young? I don't know if this would work or be too complicated for her. Something else I do is look behind me before going into a shop etc. as I find it easier to know the direction I'm going when I come out then.
I hope this helped you.
