For those interested in finding out about dyscalculia and maths learning difficulties there is a conference taking place on Fri 19th June in London. dysTalk's education advisor, Jane Emerson will be delivering a keynote speech at the event.

The Inaugral Conference was held last year in June.

The Background to Maths Difficulties and Dyscalculia : Professor Amanda Kirby describes that difficulties that some children face doing maths. She also discusses dyscalculia.
The Role of Imagery and Language in Learning Difficulties: This presentation will explain the specific mental processes that underlie reading, spelling, comprehension and critical thinking, and how these processes relate to learning difficulties. Information on the Dual Coding Theory, which illustrates the importance of developing the imagery-language connection necessary for accurate reading and comprehension, will be presented.
Dyscalculia Symptoms: Jane Emerson describes the dyscalculia symptoms and the effects of dyscalculia. She explains the way in which children struggle to gain any sense of number and therefore those with dyscalculia symptoms find even basic maths difficult.
